Introducing the TRUE ECHO CR-S Bulk Solids Radar

Automation Products Group, Inc. (APG) is proud to announce the addition of a new member to the TRUE ECHO® radar family: the TRUE ECHO CR-S Bulk Solids Radar. This is our first long-range, continuous radar specifically designed to measure bulk solids, powders, pellets, grains, liquids, and aggregate materials.  

Powered by advanced 80GHz FMCW radar technology, the CR-S Bulk Solids Radar offers one of the narrowest beam angles on the market, high accuracy, and long-range measurement capabilities. The result is dependable level measurement that helps maximize inventory visibility, optimize process efficiency, and keep operations running smoothly.

Built for Bulk Solids in the Real World 

Bulk solids present several unique challenges that make it difficult to measure continuously. Steep pile angles, uneven surfaces, and dust all interfere with ultrasonics’ ability to measure.  

The TRUE ECHO CR-S uses Frequency Modulated Continuous Waves (FMCW) at 76-81 GHz, allowing it a long reach that can see through the dust. The narrow 3- or 8-degree beam angle allows for better reflections with less interference for a more reliable measurement every time. The long range and narrow beam angle make it ideally suited for tall silos, tanks, and storage vessels. 

We know real-world conditions are rarely ideal — that’s why the CR-S features false echo suppression to improve measurement reliability in installations where ladders, braces, and fill pipes create unwanted signal reflections. For dusty environments, an air purge mounting option helps combat dust adhesion and material accumulation on the radar lens and face — reducing the need for frequent manual cleaning and maintenance.  

With the ability to measure media with dielectric constants greater than 1.5, the CR-S is well suited for a broad range of materials, including applications where conventional level technologies may struggle.  

Ease of Integration & Setup 

Integration matters, which is why the TRUE ECHO CR-S has both 4-20mA and RS-485/Modbus outputs for seamless integration. Multiple mounting options, including NPT connections and swivel flanges, provide the flexibility to install the sensor where you need it, reducing setup challenges and saving time. 

Powerful technology doesn’t have to mean added complexity. The CR-S is designed for easy set up, featuring a built-in keypad and support from the free TRUE ECHO mobile app, available for iOS and Android.
