Ensuring Accurate Measurements with PG5 Pressure Gauges

At APG, we pride ourselves on providing top-notch digital pressure gauges, with the PG5 digital pressure gauge being the cornerstone of our product line. In this post, we’ll explore the exceptional accuracy of the PG5, specifically designed for indoor use.

How PG5 Digital Pressure Gauges Work

The PG5 digital pressure gauge operates using advanced piezoresistive technology. The key component is the diaphragm, a thin metal layer with an electric circuit attached to its back. As the diaphragm flexes under the pressure, the resistance on the circuit changes in direct proportion to the applied pressure.

Features and Benefits of the PG5 Digital Pressure Gauge

The PG5 digital pressure gauge has several features that showcase its accuracy:

  • Clear Digital Display: The PG5 digital gauge boasts a full 5-digit display with 0.4-inch characters, allowing for easy readability, even from a distance. The display can show measurements up to the decimal point, enhancing accuracy.
  • Tare Function: The Tare function allows users to cancel out existing pressure by temporarily setting the current pressure to zero, making it useful when measuring a pressure change or calculating weight.
  • Peak Hold Function: The Peak Hold function captures and displays peak pressure values. With this function enabled, the value can be read without pushing buttons or toggling menu operations.
  • Vibration Resistance: Our PG5 digital pressure gauge excels in environments with vibrations such as pump monitoring, ensuring error-free readings under challenging conditions.
  • Versatile Measurement Units: Our PG5 digital pressure gauges has a variety of different units of measure to choose from and even create a custom unit of measure. Pre-programmed units include psi, bar, kPa, kgcm2, mbar, MPa, inHg, ftH2O, cmHg, inH2O, and mmHg.

Applications of PG5 Digital Pressure Gauges

Our PG5 digital pressure gauges serve as vital safety tools to control pressure and are used in systems that involve pressurized vessels or lines.

Some common applications of digital pressure sensors are:

  • Pump Control: Pressure gauges with an analog output are one of the best ways to control a pump, as they are an effective method for keeping pumps, seals, and bearings working for many years at a time with no downtime.
  • Filter and Control Valve Monitoring: Control valves with PG5 digital pressure gauges installed on the upstream and downstream side can show how open or closed it is, while also giving a flow indication via differential pressure. Too big of a pressure drop across the control valve can create an overpressure on the upstream side while starving the process on the downstream side.
  • Hydraulic Weight or Force: Pressure inside a hydraulic column can be converted to pounds of force (or weight) by factoring in a hydraulic ram. Combined with the PG5’s Tare feature, this monitors force in hydraulic systems. A unique application of this concept weighs hay bales on a forklift to avoid spending thousands on an industrial weight scale. Virtually anything could be weighed in this manner if you have an accurate measurement on the hydraulic column inside the forklift.
  • Difficult or Harsh Points of Measurements: Tethering the PG5 digital pressure gauge display to the transducer is the best way to make pressure measurement easy. This removes the display’s electronics from harsh conditions and allows you to place the display in more convenient locations. Tethered digital pressure gauges come in handy in applications ranging from pump monitoring to pressure testing.
