PT-500 Submersible Pressure Transducer | Need to Know

Newsflash: we aren’t the only submersible pressure sensor manufacturer in the world, but we might be the best.

Our customers need two things:

  • a sensor that provides reliable performance
  • and enough options to handle application specifics.

With the reliability that we have built our reputation on still firmly intact, we’ve been working hard to provide additional functionality and options.

Here are 7 reasons to be excited about the PT-500:

1) Range of Outputs

The PT-500 has always come with a 4-20 mA output. It also has Modbus, as well as 0-5 VDC and mV/V. You choose the output that fits your need, rather than being forced into a choice that may not be ideal.

2) Cable Chemical Compatibility

Polyurethane cable is great for a lot of applications, but some applications need something more robust. Our Hytrel® cable option gives you the ability to use a submersible pressure transducer in places you never thought possible, such as diesel tanks.

3) Two Cages

Many submersible pressure transducers come with a cage option. With the PT-500, you can choose between a traditional cage, or for a few extra bucks, you can get our patented removable cage, giving you the ability to reuse the cage on a new sensor should the need arise.

4) Vent Cap

The PT-500 is the best submersible pressure transducer on the market in its classAnyone who is familiar with submersible pressure transducers is familiar with trying to keep moisture out of the vent tube. By using a breathable hydrophobic membrane on our vent cap, we can protect your transducer from condensation with a cap that is smaller than the one on your pen.

Because this method filters out moisture, rather than absorbing it, the vent cap will last much longer than a desiccant cartridge without maintenance or replacement. In addition, it pops right onto the vent tube and doesn’t require shrink tube to create a seal. Our standard desiccant cartridge is also available.

5) Sealed Option with Field Zeroing

Some environments just get nasty. Gases can enter the sensor through the vent tube in a typical submersible pressure sensor and quickly destroy it. To solve this problem, we can provide a pressure transducer that is sealed.

However, sealing the sensor alone does not solve the problem. Because it is sealed, the sensor needs the ability to be zeroed at the elevation at which it is installed. We provide a simple way of zeroing the sensor with a magnet that makes this approach a slam-dunk.

By the way, this zeroing tool is available in all our PT-500’s, not just sealed units.

6) Threads or Strain Relief?

The PT-500 is the best submersible pressure transducer on the market in its classThere is more than one way to install a submersible pressure transducer. If you like to simply lower the sensor into the tank, we can provide a strain relief on the back of the sensor. If you prefer to use conduit to install the sensor, the PT-500 can be configured with a ½ inch NPT male conduit thread on the end of the sensor.

7) Foundation of Quality

On top of the options, the PT-500 is built with highly durable laser welds, includes temperature compensation, comes with a Class 1 division 1 intrinsically safe certification, and comes with lightning transient protection built into the unit (instead of requiring you to purchase additional hardware as an afterthought).

Bottom line? Our PT-500 is well-built and well-equipped to meet your needs in a variety of harsh environments.

Give our Measurement Experts a call to discuss your application. If our PT-500 isn't the right sensor for you, we'll tell you. But chances are, it will give you reliable service for many years.
