How PT-500 Sensors Enhance Industrial Automation

Explore the detailed features, applications, and benefits of our PT-500 submersible pressure transducers.

Our PT-500 submersible pressure transducers are designed to meet various submersible needs with their robust, water-tight housing. These sensors excel in measuring both dirty and clean water, making them ideal for a wide range of industrial applications. Key features include built-in lightning protection, field zero adjust, and excellent chemical compatibility in the PT-503 sensor, ensuring reliable performance in various application scenarios.

Cost-Effective and Durable Design

The PT-500 series can be equipped with a protective cage that’s either laser welded onto the sensor’s body or is removable. The removable option allows you to reuse the cage on replacement sensors, offering significant cost savings by enabling purchases without a cage.

Versatility in Measurement Units

These sensors provide versatile measurement options, reading in feet or inches of liquid adjusted to a specific gravity, or other volumetric units, in addition to measuring PSI. Their high compatibility with various chemicals makes them particularly popular in the Oil and Gas industries, as well as the water and wastewater industries.

Wide-Ranging Applications

Submersible pressure transmitters are incredibly versatile, capable of measuring the level of nearly any liquid within their temperature range. This versatility makes them especially valuable in measuring waste liquids where the exact chemical make up is ill defined. They’re also becoming popular for solar battery powered applications because of their low current draw. The PT-503 series offers a broad range of chemical compatibility, allow it to measure in environments that other sensors cannot go in.

How Submersible Pressure Transducers Work

The PT-500 series utilize piezoresistive technology to accurately measure pressure. This is based off a diaphragm with an attached electrical current. As the diaphragm flexes from the pressure, the resistance on the small circuit changes in direction proportion to the pressure, providing a basis of measurement. Once the measurement is taken, the transmitter conditions the signal to the output selected and sends it off the to control system.

Essential Role in Wastewater Lift Station

A wastewater lift station is a critical component of the waste treatment process. It’s a pump station for waste lines, collecting it from either gravity-fed lines or another lift station upstream. Once the lift station well is full, it activates pumps that push the waste down the line, until it reaches a waste treatment facility. The PT-500 series are the central component of a lift station because they drive the pump control. This prevents hazardous and expensive overflows of waste, called Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs).

Low Power Consumption for Remote Monitoring

The low power consumption of the PT-500 series makes it an ideal candidate for remote tank level monitoring, especially where battery power is required much of the time. Its design minimizes power usage by monitoring the change in a small electrical circuit, without constantly exciting a signal. This efficient operation, combined with a fast response time, further reduces power consumption.
