Program the DCR-1005/1006 to Read in Level

When ultrasonic sensors measure level or volume, they start from the bottom of the tank and measure upThe DCR-1005/1006 ultrasonic sensor controller's default settings are to show readings in the distance mode. The reading is the distance from the zero point or sensor face to the target being measured. The units of measure can be in inches, feet, or meters.

For applications that require a level/volume measurement, the DCR-1005/1006 can be programmed to display tank levels with the zero reference at the bottom of the tank.

Here is an example of programming the DCR-1005/1006 to display a level reading in inches from a flat bottom tank:

Tank Information

Tank Height: 100 inches
Span(Distance from sensor face to bottom of tank): 112 inches
Sensor Blanking Distance: 12 inches

  • Step 1: Press the Mode button until the number 1 is displayed. Change the value to 1 (inches) with the Value button.
  • Step 2: Press the Mode button until the number 3 is displayed. Change the value to 2 (tells sensor to measure level/volume) with the Value button.
  • Step 3: Press the Mode button until the number 5 is displayed. Change the value to 12 (inches, for blanking distance) using the Value button.
  • Step 4: Press the Mode button until the number 28 is displayed. Change the value to 1 (level indication) using the Value button.
  • Step 5: Press the Mode button until the number 31 is displayed. Change the value to 112 (inches, sets the distance from the sensor to the bottom of the tank) with the Value button.

With this setup, the DCR controller will display ”0” when the tank is empty. When the tank is full the display will show 100.0 inches for how many inches of fluid is in the tank.
