How We’re Adding New Capabilities To Tank Cloud

From The Lab

From The Lab articles are a sneak peek into our engineering lab. It's the R&D that powers our high quality and uniquely innovative sensors!

The MND is a multi-purpose Modbus displayEvery now and then, we like to give you a sneak peek into our engineering lab, and the R&D that powers tomorrow's solutions. Today, we’ll let you in on a little secret: our MND display extends Tank Cloud’s monitoring capabilities in new and interesting ways.

We’ve been testing some new features on our little digital display with some customers for a while now, and all is going well. One of those features is a 4-20mA input.

That’s it, you say? We’ll be the first to admit that it’s a simple upgrade – but it’s also one that opens a lot of possibilities for Tank Cloud customers.

How It's Used

We can’t tell you exactly what our customers have been doing with this handy tool. But we can tell you that they are monitoring a 4-20mA device with the MND input and using its trip points to sound an alarm. This alarm is pushed to our website through Tank Cloud server devices – either the LOE ultrasonic sensor or the RST-5002 module.

The alarm could be anywhere – online or otherwise – as it’s simply using a trip point on the MND display. But when used on our Tank Cloud website, you can plug in supporting 4-20mA devices and receive alarms when the signal falls outside of your determined window of operation.

Application examples include monitoring any sensor with a 4-20mA output, such as temperature, current, pressure, and flow sensors. All of these sensors could help you complete your tank monitoring, alerting you of any potentially troublesome situations.

Availability

It is certainly a simple upgrade for our handy, multi-purpose MND display, but it’s one that let’s you get creative and enhance the value of your remote monitoring investment.

Keep in mind; this feature is still being tested. It works great, but we like to be thorough before we make it available to the general public. If you would like to test this feature for your needs, give us a call and we’ll discuss whether or not your application is a good fit.
